OUTSTANDING! Great customer service. Ms.Kat was very pleasant and helpful in deciding what to order. Everything, I repeat, EVERYTHING we tried was delicious. The Fried Catfish and Fried Chicken Wings were seasoned and cooked to perfection. The Mac & Cheese is the best I've ever tasted. The Brussel Sprouts are savory, with a nice fresh taste. The Red Beans & Rice are excellent. Finally, the Peach & Mango Cobbler sent me over the edge . We thoroughly enjoyed Blessings by Cyler LLC. This was an absolutely wonderful experience. -

This place is the real deal. Listen most of the "Soul food" restaurants in LA miss the mark. I'm from Arkansas and I'm telling you this is it! It blessed my entire soul.
I had chicken, Mac and cheese, and red beans and rice. My daughter had the same but with the Brussel sprouts. Portion sizes were on point. The Mac and Cheese hit so right! Listen everything was good. Topping it off we had peach mango cobbler that was perfect!
I like to rate places based on whether I'd go back and I plan to go back tomorrow for seafood Saturday. So the deal is the menu is different each day. Today was fry fish Friday. -

I discovered this place and tried it for the first time yesterday and it was so good I came back today. The owner, Katina, makes this place feel like she's welcoming you into your home and it feels like the plates are cooked by someone who loves you. I felt so comfortable eating there and socializing with the restaurant and workers, I didn't feel like leaving. Best fried chicken, Mac, candied yams, red snapper, & catfish I've had in a LONG TIME.
I heard her saying she wants to create an environment where people can congregate and be one and she did that. This place is a hidden gem of the valley and it deserves all the success!
If I didn't say it enough the food is AMAZZZINGGGGGGGG. -

The food is awesome, portions are generous, and price point is better than anything else you'll find in LA. The owner and staff are also so welcoming and friendly! We ordered take-out here last night and learned they had only been at this new location for three days. There's no sign up yet and it seems they're still doing renovations to the place, but the kitchen is fully operational. I think they might also still be figuring out their menu so items and prices are subject to change for now. Parking was easy but we did come pretty late, so not sure how it is during the dinner rush. It took about 20 minutes to get our food but it was nice knowing everything was made fresh and not just sitting under a heat lamp.
We ordered two plates with two pieces of dark meat, Mac and cheese, a Hawaiian bread roll, and Brussels sprouts. Two pieces didn't sound like a lot but it was very filling! The chicken was fried to a perfect crisp and the meat inside was delicious. We'll be back for sure! -

Chef Katina Cyler's Sweet Blessings (a Mom & Pop joint) serving up delicious soul food in North Hollywood, yes!
Saturday afternoon, I met up with Yelper Isobel L. (thanks for introducing me!) to try out some soul food and fried chicken on this side of town. Even though Isobel was raving about it, I was intrigued and a bit skeptical since my love for fried chicken still belongs to Howlin' Ray's (DTLA). Nonetheless, I was gamed. After dining here, Chef Cyler's fried chicken equally ranks with Howlin' Ray's. Her soul food also blew away my mind and taste buds too! Fantastic job, Chef Cyler!
Parking: Ample free parking! Sweet Blessings is located inside the food court of the La Fiesta Indoor Swap Meet, which is right next to El Super(market) and 99 Cents Store.
Wait Time: The food does take time here because everything is made to order. Yes, they do have a sign posted by the cashier station about patiently waiting. Luckily, Isobel had informed me about the wait time beforehand. Yes, you can call ahead to place your order and pick it too. Or, if you're still interested in coming here, either bring something to keep you entertained or bring another person to dine with you. Even though they open at noon, they didn't technically start serving the food until 35mins later. Just to give you a head up, especially, if you're coming here for the first time.
We both ordered the $16.95 "A Little of Everything Plate" that today's menu offered (we were there Saturday). Chef Cyler's menu changes daily and it's post on her Instagram account. The amount of food we got was a lot - two huge plate sizes to be exact!
Drinks: We each got iced water as well as $1.00 (each) drinks - Isobel got the Sweet Tea and I got their Grape flavored version of "Kool-Aid." Both were sweet and refreshing.
Plate 1 consisted of:
1. Fried Catfish: Lightly breaded on the outside, slightly salty and super flaky on the inside. By far, the best fried catfish that I have ever had! Portion size is absolutely generous too!
2. Chicken Breast (White Meat): Fried golden and gorgeous looking! The meat inside was amazingly tender and moist. Even after it got a little cold, it still stayed tender and juicy.
3. Fried Brussel Sprouts: MY FAVORITE!!! I Crispy and fried to perfection, very plump and fresh. The savory part hits you first, and then the sweetness finishes it off. Darn, I should've bought some to go!
Plate 2 consisted of:
1. Mac & Cheese: White cheddar cheesy goodness! The noodles themselves were soft and plentiful! I was definitely sold on the Mac & Cheese.
2. Jambalaya: Delicious with a little heated kick to enhance the flavor. I loved that the heat wasn't too hot, and the sausage and shrimps mixed in were also plump and flavorful too.
3. Mixed Veggies: Gentle and mild tasting. Gotta have your veggies!
4. Brown Rice: Bland, but al dente and good. It balances out the entire meal nicely.
5. Shrimp & Grits: They were still cooking it and later brought it out to us on the side. The two shrimps were plump and succulent. The grits themselves were grainy and hearty with the cheese and chopped orange bell peppers mixed in. "Cooks with three missing teeth or more knows how to make the best grits," Chef Cyler jokingly said as she had some missing (but hidden) teeth herself, lol!
Accompanied Side Items: Coleslaw: Refreshing and a bit acidic but balances out nicely with the rest of the flavors. There's also the Pepper Jelly sauce: A bit too spicy for me and so I gave mines to Isobel.
Dessert: Mango Peach Cobbler a la mode: We shared a small size and it was huge! The mango peach cobbler was fresh out of the oven and ridiculously scrumptious! Smooth and sweet, with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce drizzled on top *swoons!* The perfect summer time dessert!
Service: Sweet, friendly and attentive. Both Chef Cyler and her husband, Ron were running the restaurant today. Once we sat down, our food and drinks were brought out to us either by Chef Cyler or her husband. They also checked in on us periodically to see how we were enjoying to the food. Chef Cyler would also stop by and chit chat before heading back to the kitchen. Once we were done eating, we dumped out trash into the near trashcan and headed up to the cashier station to pay.
Ambience and Décor: Food court setting with dedicated tables and chairs in front of the restaurant. The noise level on Saturday was actually chilled and relaxing, which allowed us to enjoy the meal and have fun conversations with each other and with Chef Cyler. The Women's restroom is spacious and decent but needs an upgrade though.
Overall, Chef Cyler's cooking has won me over. I can definitely see myself coming back here again. Thanks for a lovely lunch, Chef Cyler!
